Liner notes for Ghostly Steps

Just thought we would post the liner notes from the re-mastered version of our first album "Ghostly Steps." If any of it intrigues you then go to our Bandcamp site. The album is still available for free download but won't be for much longer.

This is a re-mastered version of The Pleasurists first album Ghostly Steps. The album represents a fascination with the dark side of human existence. It is a celebration of the profane and an exploration of the malignant motives in life. It is good fun.

The song by song account:

Long Dark Car - Ever been driving late at night on lonely stretches of road when suddenly, out of nowhere, a car appears behind you? Happened to us in Florida one night and become a very menacing situation.

Black Magic - Sometimes love can be a little like having some black magic performed on you because the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Alive, He Cried - A vignette based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. We create our own monsters everyday don't we? They may not walk around and be made of assembled corpses but we breathe life into some very bad things and are horrified when they consume us.

Demons - We all have 'em. Some of us acknowledge them, some of us ignore them, some of us give into them, and some of us fight them. Some of us do all of these things. What about making peace with them?

Vampyre - A vignette about the living dead that we all love. But in this song, we're talking about vampyres that are truly repulsive monsters. They feed on their victims in dreams and don't have romantic encounters or go to high school or battle werewolves. The vampires of today have nothing on the vampyres of old.

Graverobbers - A comment on how our culture is becoming increasingly tolerant of letting robbery happen on all levels - whether it be the bank and the government finding more and more ways to take your money, or how pop music has not generated anything new in decades and has succeeded only by feasting on the remains of the past, or the way that graverobbers literally thieve from the dead. Also inspired by a friend of mine who went to Costa Rica and became involved with a gang of graverobbers.

Distant Stars - Inspired by a sensitive friend of mine who asked me if I was haunted. He detected some kind of presence around me. It did make me wonder and kinda freaked me out because I knew on some level what he was talking about. To me, one of the most comforting things is the light from stars; the eternity of light that shines on a clear dark night.

East of Adelaide - In our city, the bad side of town is referred to as "E.O.A."  Adelaide is the street that divides the town into east and west. E.O.A. conjures to mind all the bad places and people that exist in our city. Except they're not bad places or bad people. We all have different challenges in life and to pity, ignore and ridicule others because of where they live is far from evolved. This song is about what happens when frustration and anger grow into a way of life.

Brain To My Body - A song about the decision to close down a psychiatric hospital in our city. Many mental patients who really couldn't care for themselves were released and left to fend for themselves.
The Strain - A song that is about the historic and famous Donnelly massacre that happened north of our city. A fascinating story and if you are not familiar with it you should look it up. A song about how hatred and violence traveled from Ireland to the new world and grew into more terror and violence. The strain of living with evil deeds eventually leads to more evil deeds. Title is taken from Guillermo Del Toro's vampire novel of the same name.

Ghosts - Living at a cemetary creates a certain mood. This song is an ode to our closest neighbours.

Update on Halloween Party

Despite our efforts to create a perfect showcase for the re-mastered version of our debut album "Ghostly Steps" we were thwarted when our venue was washed out by the winds and rain of Hurricance Sandy.

Halloween Party

Happy Halloween to everyone! We are having a Halloween costume party and we've invited all our FB friends in the hopes of recreating that crazy party in Amsterdam that had to be shut down by the police or the military or whatever. Who cares? Once everyone is here we are going to put on a HUGE show. We have dug and built a makeshift amphitheatre in the frontyard and it is going to be fantastic. It's going to make the headlines fer sure.

In the meantime, our album Ghostly Steps has been re-mastered and makes excellent listening at this time of year.
